Spotlight On - Miller Blue

Our March Music Spotlight Musician is 20 year old singer/songwriter Miller Blue.

Hailing from Shropshire and studying at Leeds University, Miller Blue - real name Benjamin Joseph Edwards - is not only a talented singer but also produces his own music.

Having grown up surrounded by music, his dad is also a musician, his influences are drawn from a real mixture of artists such as Duran Duran, Manic Street Preachers, Dr Dre and Frank Ocean. His debut EP Persistence showcases a variety of songs that anybody can relate to, and each track is a blend of genres including jazz, soul, r&b and hip hop.

Miller didn’t start thinking about being a musician properly until he finished school. He taught himself to play guitar then having studied Music Technology at college, he set up a home studio in his bedroom and began to write and produce his EP.

Where did his unique name come from? The name Miller Blue came to be when his aunt was pregnant. If it was a boy then she would call it Miller (Benjamin suggested Miller Blue because it ‘sounded cool’) and a girl - Charlotte. She gave birth to a girl and so Charlotte was picked, and Benjamin claimed Miller Blue.

Miller’s Persistence EP displays his genius lyric writing skills, which he explains is filled with metaphors - a style he frequently uses when producing new material. Cold Hands is the first single from his EP and the video is a prime example of visually representing the hard times that Miller went through which are revealed through his wonderfully worded songs. The main objective for Miller is to connect with whoever it is that listens to his music.

He is currently working on new material for his next EP, and a video for the next single from his Persistence EP, Marigold.
