Gig Review - Discovery 2 - 24th September 2015

229 The Venue, opposite London's Great Portland Street tube station, once again saw a fantastic night of a variety of acts, hosted by ‘Discovery 2’. This gig space provides a comfortable and intimate experience for both the performer and those in the audience who can enjoy the show seated on sofas to the side or standing in front of the stage.

The first act up was the cheerful and talented songstress Lisa Marini who was accompanied by her violinist and double bass player. With her music described as ‘Latin, Blues and Gypsy’, she performed a song called ‘Same Old Story’ which instantly reminded me of KT Tunstall and Laura Marling, due to her vocal and performance style. In between songs she gave out playful banter to the audience, with laughs aplenty. A lovely way to start off the event. @lisamarinimusic

‘Adventures Of…’ were the next entertaining duo on the stage. The bouncy and energetic rap band performed tunes including ‘Let’s Go Home’ and ‘Where We Are’ which got the audience bobbing along to its thumping beats and well-written lyrics. If you imagine Mike Skinner from The Streets and Plan B, you can easily place them alongside such names. It definitely spruces up the evening when you have a diverse range of acts. Great entertainment. @Adventures_of

Desert Planes are an indie band who followed up from the ‘Adventures Of….’, with songs such as ‘Waited All Night’. They carried on the lively energy of the line-up getting the audience enthusiastically dancing in front of the stage. Death Cab for Cutie came to mind when thinking of a comparison. @desertplanes

Zurich are an English rock band from Oxford who describe their music as ‘widescreen post-punk rock with a nod to the darker side of 80’s electronic pop’. Their new EP ‘Small Wars’ was released on the 21st September, and they gave a fantastic display of ‘Chemical’ and ‘Alone’ which are both included on the EP. @zurichofficial

The last band to grace the stage were Bakers Eddy, a brilliant rock quartet from Wellington, New Zealand. They are a talented bunch... Watch a video of their performance below:
