22 year old Henry Maybury is a singer songwriter on an admirable mission to educate and raise awareness through
his music. His previous single Lost Days was a massive success, reaching over 1
million views on YouTube and raising thousands of pounds for Alcohol Addiction and
Recovery charities through the Lost Days Charitable Trust.
The video for his new
single You’re Beautiful has a powerful message about self
confidence, self acceptance, beauty and identity. The video stars scarred Falklands War veteran Simon
Weston OBE and Only Fools And Horses actor John Challis (aka the character Boycie).
Watch the video below.
The video shows various personal stories and characters including a female model, a rugby
player coming to terms with his damaged face, a confused teenage boy putting on
lipstick, a group of male friends (one with a facial scar) and girls in a club
toilet putting on make up. It has a great opening scene with Simon Weston looking directly into camera (as we later find out, looking at the Falklands War Memorial) which is
a brilliant emotional shot. The role of self image, how people see themselves in
the mirror, and how they think others perceive them, is a very important aspect
to the video and the song. This is very relatable to everyone.
Henry writes very personal
songs and writes from the heart. Lost Days was written about his older brother
Tom, who sadly lost his life to alcohol addiction in 2013. Henry himself has
channelled this pain into his music and wants to help make a difference and
help others.
Henry himself has a debilitating illness that
cannot always be seen. Henry was a promising rugby player in his teens, playing
for his school and county, when he was diagnosed with arthritis at just 14
years old. There was an incident with a taxi driver in London recently. Henry
requested a taxi but was refused as the distance was ‘walkable’. Even after
Henry explained that he was in pain and unable to walk this far the driver
dismissed this and wouldn’t take him. Henry wants to get across that someone
may look ‘normal’ but people should not assume they’re ok.
There is a lot of difference between how people
see themselves and how others see them. Insecurities are universal, beauty is subjective and everyone is beautiful in their own way.
